Hoobuy Shipping Cost: Actual vs Volumetric Weight

A useful shipping estimate starts with destination, packed weight and outer box dimensions. Item price or the number of products alone cannot tell you the final international shipping cost.

Collect the inputs before comparing routes

Record the destination country and postal area, item categories, packed weight, outer length, width and height, and the date of the quote. Packaging changes the inputs: a shoebox, protective padding or a large outer carton can affect the result even when the products stay the same.

Use the current account estimator and route conditions for availability. Check restrictions that apply to the actual contents, such as batteries or fragile items. An estimate is conditional; it is not proof that a route will accept the final parcel.

Understand actual and volumetric weight

Actual weight is the measured parcel weight. Volumetric weight converts occupied space into a weight using the route's divisor. If the route bills the greater of the two, compare them before applying that route's rounding rule, minimum charge or weight increments.

The calculator below demonstrates length × width × height ÷ divisor, with centimetres and kilograms. Enter the divisor shown by the route you are checking. There is no universal Hoobuy divisor. The result is a weight illustration, not a live price quote.

Compare a packaging change with a worked example

Example only: a 4 kg parcel measuring 40 × 30 × 30 cm has a volumetric weight of 6 kg when an illustrative divisor of 6,000 is used. At 40 × 30 × 20 cm, it becomes 4 kg. If the greater weight is billed, the comparison changes from 6 kg to 4 kg before rounding.

This does not establish a particular route's divisor or promise a saving. Removing retail packaging can reduce space but also remove protection or an accessory you want to retain. Compare the packed result and protection level, not only an unboxed item weight.

Keep the full budget separate from postage

Track product cost, seller-to-warehouse shipping, optional inspection or packing services, international postage and any destination charges that apply. Check what the quoted route price includes before adding a cost again. Currency conversion and payment charges may also affect what you actually pay.

Do not use an arbitrary low customs value to force the budget to fit. Follow current destination requirements and the account's declaration instructions. This guide does not provide a country-specific tax rate, a duty-free allowance or a guarantee against customs charges.

Compare two quotes on the same basis

Save each route name, quote time, destination, dimensions, weight, contents, included services and stated delivery estimate. If one quote uses unpacked item weights and the other uses a final carton, they are not a fair comparison.

Repeat the estimate after packing changes and before paying. A delivery estimate is not a guaranteed arrival date. Keep the quote and parcel record together so a later adjustment can be understood against the inputs you actually submitted.
